In the last quarter of 2022, we saw OpenAI ChatGPT taking the world by storm. In 2023, we welcomed the birth of Copilot for Microsoft 365 —your copilot for work. Copilot combines the power of large language models (LLMs) with your data in the Microsoft Graph—your calendar, emails, chats, documents, meetings, and more

Humans possess an innate desire to dream, innovate, and create. Each individual yearns to partake in work that instills purpose and meaning in their lives. Be it writing a masterpiece novel, making a groundbreaking discovery, building strong and united communities, or caring for the unwell, the craving to connect with the essence of one’s profession lies within every soul. Unfortunately, we often find ourselves spending an excessive amount of time engrossed in tedious work that drains our time, creativity, and energy. To rediscover the soul of our labor, we require not just an improved method of performing our tasks but a completely new approach to work.

Presently, we offer the advanced potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to the working world. It is with great pleasure that we introduce Copilot for Microsoft 365, your ultimate work companion. This innovative software merges the capabilities of large language models (LLMs) with your data in the Microsoft Graph and the Microsoft 365 apps, creating the most powerful productivity tool on the planet from your words.

Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s Chairman and CEO, claims, “Today marks the next major step in the evolution of how we interact with computing, which will fundamentally change the way we work and unlock a new wave of productivity growth. With our new copilot for work, we’re giving people more agency and making technology more accessible through the most universal interface — natural language.”

Copilot for Microsoft 365 is integrated into Microsoft 365 in two different ways. It operates alongside you within the Microsoft 365 apps that you utilize daily, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and others. Copilot unlocks your creativity, boosts productivity, and enhances your skillset. We are also proud to announce the unveiling of an entirely new experience, Business Chat. Business Chat functions across the LLM, the Microsoft 365 apps, and your data such as your calendar, emails, chats, documents, meetings, and contacts, allowing you to accomplish tasks never before possible. Simply provide natural language cues like “Inform my team about the updated product strategy,” and it will generate a status update derived from the morning’s meetings, emails, and chat threads.

With Copilot, you’re always in control. You decide what to keep, modify or discard. Now, you can be more creative in Word, more analytical in Excel, more expressive in PowerPoint, more productive in Outlook and more collaborative in Teams.
